Dr. Shahdeen Malik Appointed as ACC Lawyer
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has appointed renowned lawyer Dr. Shahdeen Malik as a lawyer for the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
It has been learned that he was appointed on a temporary, case-by-case basis to handle cases on behalf of the ACC.
This information comes from a letter dated Thursday (August 14) and signed by the Director General of the ACC‘s prosecution division, Mohammad Iqbal Bahar.
According to the letter sent to Dr. Shahdeen Malik, the ACC has decided to appoint him as a temporary lawyer under the provisions of Section 33(3) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, to handle cases pending before the Supreme Court. The appointment letter was issued with the following conditions:
Conditions of appoinment
- You will be entitled to a monthly honorarium at a rate determined by the Commission on a case-by-case basis.
- While you are engaged with the Commission, you may not conduct any cases against it.
- While engaged with the Commission, you may not actively participate in the activities of any political party.
- A decision to continue your appointment will be made each year based on a performance review in January.
- You will be required to assist the Commission’s inquiry/investigation officers in preparing the First Information Report (FIR) and filing the charge sheet.
- This appointment is entirely temporary, and the Commission can cancel your appointment at any time without showing any cause.
According to reliable sources, Dr. Shahdeen Malik was born in the village of Saruala in Bishwanath Upazila, Sylhet district, Bangladesh. His father, Abdul Malik Chowdhury, was the chief conservator of forests. Malik earned an LLB (pass) degree from Dhaka University. He later earned a master’s degree in law from the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University in Russia in 1979 and another LLM degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1984. He completed his PhD from SOAS, University of London, in 1994.
He is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court and the head of chambers for a law firm called Ergo Legal Counsel. Dr. Shahdeen Malik has been practicing in the Supreme Court and district courts for over two decades. He is currently working at the Asia Pacific University.
